Annual Student Party
Our student party is held each summer either right before or shortly after school gets out. Sometimes the weather has not been so cooperative but today ended up being perfect for our party. We were able to spread out on the back patio to enjoy some yummy treats...
...and some active brain-gym exercises.
We did 10 Brain-Gym Exercises: Cross Crawl, Brain Buttons, Lazy 8's, Arm Activation, Hook-Ups, Thinking Caps, Calf Pumps, The Elephant, Energy Yawn and Positive Points. If you would like a description of each of these you may copy and paste this into your web browser:
sspw.dpi.wi.gov/files/sspw/pdf/sascevanshandouts.pdf
If you decide to print, please be sure to only print the first 3-5 pages
(or you will end up with 57).

2013 Spring Violin Recital
This was our first recital at a new location. My studio got too big for the Layton Library where our recitals had been held for many years. We moved to the Clearfield Library and enjoyed the larger auditorium.

- Left Hand Motions: Less is More
- Brain Gym: Why we need to Move to Learn
- Resistance: the Magic Ingredient
- Right Hand Motions: tone production games and exercises
Several of the parents in my studio were also able to attend the practice-parent classes that were offered.

University of Utah
From the University of Utah I went directly to temple square where I spent some time at the SLC Temple and then walked to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building where my quartet, Strings of Elegance, serenaded a newly married bride and her family at their reception in the Empire Room. It was a beautiful, peaceful, enriching spring day!

Welcome to all my new students! The recital went smoothly and we played for a full house. In fact, our audience was over capacity. This will be our last recital at the Layton Library. Next time it will be at the Clearfield Library where the auditorium is much larger and can adequately accommodate my expanded studio and all their guests. The performances were solid. Congratulations on a job well done. It is a pleasure to hear the music these students make and to see the musicianship they are developing.

Suzuki Fiddle Workshop and Grand Play-In
Kaysville Junior High School
We gathered together with Suzuki students in the Davis/Weber area.
My studio was well represented, almost all of us were there!
First we enjoyed some fiddling with Aaron Ashton.
Then we participated in the Grand Play-In.
For the Grand Play-In, we took Suzuki literature and transformed it into play time. We did wild and crazy things with these classical pieces that we are usually so serious about. Cathy Marlor taught the "Witches Dance" and is happy to say that with all the dancing around, no violins were damaged. :)

Annual Student Party
We played fun games and enjoyed yummy snacks.
"Laughing together heartily at the same thing forms an instant bond"
Many new students have joined my studio and many have been with me for years. We all came together and laughed as we played silly group games. I always feel such warmth and unity from my studio families. Thanks for being part of my studio and sharing these great memories with me and with each-other!

Fall Violin Recital Rehearsal 2011
I can't believe I have a student playing the Vivaldi Concertos! Amanda has been taking from me for 5 years (slightly longer than I've been a mom). I'm so proud of how hard all my students work and how well they play. Congratulations on all the fantastic performances this evening!

Suzuki Davis Grand Concert

This year's grand concert had a Halloween theme!
Playing everything on the program that they know, the performers got to also dress up in costume. Starting with the most advanced pieces and adding students to the stage with each selection, by the time the beginning twinkles are played, the stage is packed!

Annual Parent Retreat
We enjoyed sun chips, caramel bugles, and oreos in my cozy basement living room while we discussed the Suzuki philosophy. The main thing that sets the Suzuki approach to learning violin apart from traditional methods is that Dr. Suzuki very strongly believed that talent is something that is learned, not something we simply have or do not have. What I love about my studio families is how all of us have taken to heart that we BELIEVE in our violin students, in their great potential. As they continue to work hard, they grow. It is a beautiful thing for me to witness. Thank-you for entrusting me with the nurturing of your talent development in music!

Annual Student Party
Despite beautiful weather in the morning hours, it turned out to be a windy, cloudy afternoon. But that didn't stop us from having a good time. We played games, enjoyed snacks, and some brave students even ventured outside!

Winter Term Ends, Summer Term Begins Soon...
I thought that a great way to celebrate the ending of our winter term would be to update our studio blog with all of the wonderful events we were able to enjoy throughout the school year. I'm looking forward to the progress that will be made this summer by my wonderful students!
